Tops Wimborne, on Leigh Road, is delighted to share the outcome of its recent Ofsted inspection under the new education inspection framework, having successfully achieved the “Expected Standard” across all six areas assessed.
While many families may be more familiar with Ofsted’s previous grading system, the new framework places a stronger emphasis on the quality of children’s experiences, staff interactions, safeguarding, wellbeing and the overall effectiveness of early years provision. Achieving the “Expected Standard” confirms that the nursery is meeting the requirements expected by Ofsted and providing children with a safe, nurturing and supportive environment in which they can learn, develop and thrive.
The report highlighted many strengths across the nursery, including the positive relationships children build with staff, the quality of teaching and the inclusive environment created for all children.
Inspectors praised children’s communication and language development, noting that children enjoy sharing books with adults, talking about their play and working cooperatively with others. The report also recognised children’s growing personal, social and emotional skills, highlighting examples of kindness and care shown between children.
The strong relationships between staff and children were another key feature of the report. Ofsted noted that children build secure attachments with their key persons and feel confident seeking support when needed. Staff were recognised for supporting children’s emotional wellbeing through tailored activities and individualised support.
The inspection also commended the nursery’s approach to learning and development, recognising how staff use regular assessments to identify next steps and encourage children to think critically, solve problems and develop their understanding through play-based learning experiences.
Inclusivity was another area highlighted within the report. Inspectors found that leaders and staff create an environment where all children can access learning opportunities and receive support that meets their individual needs. The report also recognised the nursery’s proactive approach to supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring that children receive appropriate support and interventions at the earliest opportunity.
