The River Stour is set to come alive once again this summer as the Rotary Club of Christchurch and the Rotary Club of Boscombe & Southbourne launch the 2026 Christchurch River Pageant
Following the resounding success of last year’s inaugural event, the pageant will return on Saturday, 25th July 2026, promising a vibrant display of community spirit, historical fancy dress, and friendly competition. Organisers from both clubs are officially opening registrations and calling on local boat owners, paddleboarders, clubs, and businesses to enter their watercraft.
Celebrating an Incredible Debut
Last year’s maiden voyage saw a spectacular fleet of 45 vessels take to the water, ranging from sleek kayaks to a highly ambitious floating picnic table. Led by the historic gentlemen’s yacht Ianthe, the procession drew thousands of spectators to the riverbanks, raising more than £2,500 for local causes. The day concluded with an exhilarating demonstration of dragon boat racing and sea shanties that captured the imagination of the entire town.
Aims of the 2026 Pageant
The 2026 event aims to build directly on that momentum. Jointly organised by Christchurch’s two neighbouring Rotary clubs, the core objectives are to:
- Boost Community Participation: Bring together schools, sports clubs, emergency services, and local characters on the water.
- Raise Rotary Awareness: Highlight the modern, active role both local Rotary clubs play in supporting the Bournemouth and Christchurch areas.
- Provide a Free Family Day Out: Encourage thousands of residents and tourists to enjoy a free spectacle along the scenic route from Tuckton Tea Gardens to Christchurch Town Quay.
- Drive Vital Fundraising: Exceed last year’s total to support three life-changing local charities.
Sailing for Worthy Causes
All funds raised from this year’s entry fees and donations will be split equally between:
- Hengistbury Head Outdoor Centre: Providing community-led outdoor recreation and water sports training facilities for all ages.
- Bourne Water Dragons: Supporting individuals affected by cancer through active and inclusive local dragon boating.
- Pink Champagne Breast Cancer Survivors’ Dragon Boat Team: Inspiring and improving the physical and mental well-being of breast cancer survivors across Dorset.
A Call for Captains
This year’s fancy dress theme invites participants to delve into Christchurch’s rich and colourful past—think smugglers, pirates, and maritime pioneers. Whether you want to paddle a decorated SUP, captain a motorboat, or construct a homemade raft with your corporate colleagues, all safe watercraft are welcome.

This year, our two clubs are joining forces to make it even bigger. We want to see more creative designs, more pirates, and help raise even more vital funds for our incredible local charities. It’s entirely free to watch, so we encourage everyone to come along, enjoy the stalls, and cheer on the watercraft!”
