Welcome to April, a month where we can start to enjoy more daylight hours and lighter evenings. It is also a time to look out for Tulips and Blossom as they begin to flower, spreading colour and cheer across Weymouth’s greenspaces.
One of the first events to take place this month is the family fun day at Tumbledown on Thursday 10th April from 10am – 1pm. There will be crafts, a bird trail, a chance to see the new building, and have a go at the orienteering trail. The day offers fun for the whole family during the Easter holidays.
The Anzac Day Memorial Service takes place on Friday 25th April on Weymouth seafront. This poignant service is a chance for us all to commemorate the thousands of Australian and New Zealand volunteer service personnel who passed through camps and hospitals in Dorset during the First World War between battles in the Middle East and those on the Western Front in Europe.
As part of the Jubilee Clock Light Up Scheme, from 14th – 21st April, the clock face will light up in yellow, purple and green to raise awareness for Mosaic. This wonderful charity provides support to children and young people who have experienced bereavements and Weymouth Town Council is proud to support such a worthy cause.
Looking ahead, Weymouth Town Council’s annual Community Expo will be taking place on Saturday 17th May so please do look out for more information on this. We hope to have community choirs performing, along with stalls set up along the prom showcasing the work of community and voluntary groups in our town.
I am delighted to share more details of the fundraising event I’m hosting on Friday 2nd May, to support my chosen charity, The Lantern Trust. Tickets cost £7.50, with all proceeds going to The Lantern, who support Weymouth’s homeless community. It starts at 7.30pm at The Centenary Club and includes a raffle and performance from local blues and soul band, The Omega Project. Please join me for an evening of fun and entertainment, all while raising money for a worthy cause. For tickets, email mayor@weymouthtowncouncil.gov.uk or call 01305 239327.
