There’s a new way to become part of something special at Hengistbury Head.
After years of closure and an extraordinary community effort to save the site, Hengistbury Head Outdoors (HHO) is now launching and HHO Friendships are officially open to everyone.
Alongside the launch of Friendships, the community-owned wellbeing hub is coming alive with a packed programme of events and experiences over the coming weeks: from paddleboarding and sailing to yoga, wellbeing sessions, sauna experiences and summer celebrations.
Set against one of the most beautiful natural settings in the country, HHO is inviting local people to join from the beginning and help shape a unique community built around movement, nature, wellbeing and belonging.
And there is plenty happening this summer.

SloMo Sauna arrives on 19 June
Things are about to get even warmer. From 19 June, SloMo Sauna arrives at HHO, bringing sauna experiences to one of the most spectacular coastal locations around.
Summer Solstice celebration 21 June
Just two days later, HHO will host a special Summer Solstice celebration on 21 June, bringing people together to celebrate the longest day of the year through yoga, movement, wellbeing, food and connection.
Neil Woods, Director, said: “Getting people back on the water again feels incredibly special. This harbour has inspired generations, and we want more people, whether complete beginners or experienced water users, to discover just how accessible and enjoyable being on the water can be. This event is all about opening that world up.”
Sara Glen, Operations and Healthy Communities Director, said: “HHO is about much more than activities. It’s about helping people move more, feel better and reconnect with nature, with other people and with themselves. Bringing wellbeing into a setting like this creates something really powerful.”
Will Behenna, Director and Founder of Inclusive Paddleboarding, said: “Access to the water and outdoors should be for everyone. We’re passionate about helping remove barriers and creating opportunities so more people can experience adventure, challenge and connection, whatever their circumstances or abilities.”
Hengistbury Head Outdoors was saved by the local community and operates as a Community Benefit Society, meaning it is owned by the community and run for community benefit.
As summer begins, HHO is inviting local people to come and discover a place designed to help people move more, feel better, connect with others and enjoy the incredible natural environment right on their doorstep.
HHO. Built through community generosity and government funding. Powered by volunteers.
