Wimborne Minster hosted the Town Mayor’s Annual Civic Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, 10 May 2026, led by the Town Mayor, Cllr Jeff Hart and Mayoress, Mrs Barbara Hart and organised in collaboration with Wimborne Minster.
The annual service brought together civic dignitaries from across Dorset and neighbouring parishes, alongside councillors, local organisations, volunteers and residents, for a warm and well-attended afternoon of thanksgiving and community reflection.
The proceedings began with a civic procession led by the Quarterjacks Marching Band, setting a lively and ceremonial tone as guests followed, including the Deputy Town Mayor’s Serjant and Crier, the Wimborne Militia, civic dignitaries, town councillors, and the procession of colours and standards from a range of local organisations.
The service itself was conducted by The Reverend Canon Andrew Rowland, Rector of Wimborne Minster Benefice and Rural Dean of Wimborne, with music from Jubilate and Minster Choirs.
A particularly valued part of the service came through readings delivered by members of the Millstream Disabled Theatre Group and representatives from Dorset Community Action, both of which were the Mayor’s chosen charities for this civic year.
Cllr Jeff Hart said: “The Town welcomed civic dignitaries from across Dorset and neighbouring parishes to Wimborne Minster. The occasion provided an opportunity to recognise and give thanks to all the local community groups, organisations and volunteers who have supported and made an impact within our town and community.”
Following the service, guests gathered on the Minster Green, for a demonstration of musketry by the Wimborne Militia, which was warmly received, followed by a reception at Church House. The Deputy Town Mayor’s Serjant and Crier, supported by the Militia, also fulfilled their traditional ceremonial duty as “protector of the Town Mayor and the Town from disorder and rebellion”.
The service once again proved to be a much-appreciated and well-supported event in the civic calendar, reflecting the strong community spirit and voluntary contribution across Wimborne Minster and the wider area.
