A key and informative event designed to help local people plan for their later years is coming to Winchester, and attendance is completely free.
The team behind Legacy Action Week is proud to present The Later Years with Sir Peter Thornton, an insightful and accessible in‑person event designed to help local people and their families better understand the essential steps to getting their affairs in order.
Hosted by Sir Peter Thornton KC, the first chief coroner of England and Wales and a distinguished legal expert, the talk will offer a clear, reassuring journey through the key topics everyone should consider as they approach later life. Sir Peter will draw on decades of legal, judicial, and educational experience to provide attendees with practical guidance on planning ahead with confidence.
The event takes place at 7pm on Monday 20 April at The Arc in Winchester, where guests can expect expert insight, practical guidance, and the opportunity to gain clarity on life‑planning topics that are all too often left until it’s too late.
The Later Years is brought to the people of Winchester thanks to the team behind Legacy Action Week. The eight Winchester-based charities formed in 2024 and work together to highlight the difference a gift in your Will can make to the work they’re able to do supporting local people.
This event will kick-start Legacy Action Week, which takes place in April each year, where the group will be working with local solicitors and wealth management advisors to highlight the importance of Wills and offer free advice to help people get started with the process.
Iain Steel, independent chair of the group, said: “This event will really help anyone who doesn’t know where to start when it comes to getting their affairs in order for later life.
“Sir Peter Thornton has been widely praised for his down‑to‑earth guidance on will‑writing, powers of attorney, pensions, scams, care considerations, and more. It’s a real privilege to have him join us as part of Legacy Action Week. He’ll be offering clear and insightful advice to help make navigating this part of life feel far less overwhelming. I also want to thank him for giving up his time entirely free of charge to support the people of Winchester with such an important process.”
