During the 2025 bowling season, Brockenhurst Bowling Club has held several fundraising events in aid of The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, the charity nominated by this year’s President, Pete Drodge.
Although a relatively small local lawn bowling club, its generous members have succeeded in raising £2,350 for the charity. At the club’s Presentation Evening last week, President Pete was therefore able to hand a very “large” cheque to John Wingham, the representative from H&IOWAA. John gave an interesting talk about how the Air Ambulance works and explained how the donation would help them to continue funding the development of their new base at Southampton airport and to keep their three helicopters and various support vehicles active. He said that although the amount raised may seem like a drop in the ocean when considering how much it costs to put just one helicopter in the air annually, every donation, no matter the size, was vitally important in helping to save lives.
