Golden Gecko, Romsey’s beloved indoor climbing and activity centre, is proud to be celebrating its 10th birthday in May 2025. Since opening its doors in 2015, Golden Gecko has become a cornerstone of Romsey’s local community, welcoming children, families and adults of all ages and abilities through its doors for climbing sessions, charity and community events, parties and courses.
Over the past decade, Golden Gecko has built a reputation for its strong community focus, offering a wide range of activities, from running engaging school clubs and term-time courses for children, to hosting family climbing sessions, children’s parties, school and recreational groups, adult coaching, weekly climbing socials and inclusive lessons.
The centre prides itself on its ability to cater to all climbers, including those with special educational needs (SEN). Highly trained team members host regular weekly slots, including a SEN quiet climbing hour every Saturday, SEN-inclusive weekly climbing clubs and one-on-one additional needs sessions.
Golden Gecko continues to play an important role in supporting physical and mental wellbeing in Romsey and surrounding areas, offering a safe and supportive environment for people to try new activities, stay fit, learn new skills and make new friends. With autobelays, roped and unroped climbing available, there is something to suit every climber, whether experienced or new to the sport. The centre’s dedication to inclusivity and its commitment to making climbing accessible to all have been a key part of its success and longevity.
Geoff Niblett, managing director at Golden Gecko, said: “Since opening the doors of Golden Gecko back in 2015, I have been lucky enough to welcome so many brilliant people to the world of climbing. We are so grateful to everyone who has supported us over the years. I look forward to many more years of climbing fun to come, and meeting even more of our community and beyond – young and old, experienced and beginner alike!”
To mark its 10th anniversary, Golden Gecko will be hosting a day of celebrations on the 3rd of May, inviting the whole community to join in the fun and share their memories.
