“Janet calls me most weeks, and sometimes if she’s free she’ll pop round for a cup of tea. I look forward to hearing from Janet, and she has become a good friend to me.”
Did you know that as many as 1 in 5 households in Dorset are vulnerable to loneliness and isolation?
Dorset is a rural county with an increasing elderly population, and our Community Response team often get referrals for residents who are isolated and lonely, and to whom a visit from a friendly neighbour could make all the difference.
In some cases, our Community Response Volunteers are the only human interaction they have all week.
Could you spare some time to visit someone in your community who is lonely? If you’re in the Dorset Council area we would love as many of you as possible to sign up to be a Community Response Volunteer.
There is no minimum commitment for how often you help – signing up just means that you allow us to include you in an email if someone in your area has requested help. If you’re available, and happy to help, you just respond. It’s as simple as that.
Please visit our website volunteeringdorset.org.uk and search our Opportunities for the Community Response Volunteers.
