Local Schools Honor Armistice Day at Hinton Park

In commemoration of Armistice Day, Hinton Park Woodland Burial Ground invited local primary schools to contribute to a special display honouring those who gave their lives in service. Bransgore C of E Primary School and Highcliffe St John’s Primary School enthusiastically joined this community project, producing a touching and visually captivating display.

The display, crafted by students, features heartfelt artwork, including drawings, poetry, and handcrafted clay poppies. These creations reflect the children’s appreciation for the significance of Armistice Day and have been met with admiration and praise from visitors to the burial ground.

Charlotte Deefholts, Art Lead at Bransgore Primary, commented:

“The children of Bransgore Primary School had the wonderful opportunity to take part in a special community engagement project with Hinton Park Burial Grounds to honour the memory of those who have served in the armed forces. Every child from all year groups across the school created artwork for a window display which reflects themes of remembrance, peace, and hope of the significance of Remembrance Day. The children created individual and group poppy artwork using a range of mediums. They used watercolours, made clay poppies, collage, and created some group pieces. All staff and children at Bransgore feel very honoured that their artwork is being displayed and thank you to Hinton Burial Grounds for asking us to be part of such an important occasion.”

Elisa Way, burial grounds team manager at Hinton Park, added:

“It has been an honor to be able to work with these local school children. The artwork provided for us to display is beautiful and it has been a very touching way for us to commemorate the lives of those lost. We had many positive comments from our visitors and clients who were pleased to see such a beautiful display of art from very talented children. We would like to thank both schools for their contributions.”

Hinton Park woodland burial ground also held a short memorial service on our front lawn, during which we played the last post and upheld the 2 minutes silence in memory of the fallen.
