It’s that festive time of year when residents, friends, and visitors have the opportunity to don their elf suits and Father Christmas swimwear for the Weymouth & Portland Lions Clubs’ annual harbour swim on Christmas Day. Each year, thousands gather along the Weymouth harbour to watch this celebrated Lions event, a highlight for the community. Adventurous souls willing to brave the chilly Christmas morning waters will embark on a swim of over 70 meters, starting from the harbourside on Trinity Road and finishing across the harbour near the Harbour Master’s office on Custom House Quay, with the first race commencing at 11 am.
Participants will be organised into as many as 10 groups of 50, with some completing the swim in mere minutes. Swimmers are advised to secure their tickets in advance via the Billetto website. For ticket links, please visit the Lions’ Facebook page. Tickets are priced at £15.00 plus a booking fee. Day tickets, priced at £20.00, may be available for purchase on the day subject to availability.
Ryan Hope, the Lions President and Events Chairman, expressed, “Organising this year’s swim has been a joy. As we celebrate, let’s remember those less fortunate than ourselves, so please donate generously to a Lion with a yellow bucket.”
