Weymouth FC Women – A Year In Review

Weymouth Women FC recently concluded their debut season in the South West Regional Women’s League following their promotion. The team performed admirably throughout the season, securing a solid 6th place finish among the competitive squads, thereby cementing their status in the league.

Emily Screen emerged as the team’s standout player, delivering an extraordinary performance. In her 12 appearances, Screen scored 10 goals, including a memorable hat-trick against Bournemouth Manor during the SNAP Dorset Women’s Cup, contributing to a resounding 9-0 victory. Her skill on the field earned her four player of the match awards, highlighting her pivotal role in the team’s success.

Club captain Charlotte Wilson also had an impressive season, claiming the most assists and showing remarkable dedication by starting 14 out of the 16 league games. Her leadership and consistency have been instrumental in stabilising the team during critical matches.

Emma Potter, another noteworthy player, demonstrated her reliability by starting every league game. Her unwavering presence on the field has been crucial, ensuring the team maintained a competitive edge throughout the season.

Beyond individual achievements, Weymouth FC Women have collectively claimed recognition for their contributions to the sport. For the second consecutive year, they have been nominated for the Grassroots Initiative of the Year at the National Women’s Football Awards. This nomination not only acknowledges their on-field achievements but also their efforts to promote and develop women’s football at the grassroots level.
