Cycle-powered cinema whizzing its way to Andover!

Hop on your bikes to Vigo Park for a unique cycle cinema experience!

As part of Andover Cycling Festival, Test Valley Borough Council has organised a giant cinema screen to pop up in Vigo Park on Saturday 29 July and show the musical favourite Grease.

Forget pedal pushers, as pedal power is all that will be needed for Andover’s outdoor cinema screening, as this film will be operated solely by energetic volunteers on static bikes.  No electricity will be used to project the film, so the audience will need to gear up and take it in turns and keep the film running throughout the evening.

There will be a range of static bikes available in different sizes, so everyone can get involved. Volunteers can cycle for 5 minutes or 50 minutes, depending on how energetic they feel, but if no one pedals the film won’t play.

Those not wishing to cycle can still come along to enjoy a fabulous evening out. Dressing up is encouraged and audiences will be able to bring their own blankets, chairs and picnics. There will be street food such as pizza from Arty Stans Pizza, a licensed bar from the Tap on Tour and freshly made popcorn from Illusion events available, and local band In Bloom will be performing before the film starts.

The event will open at 7:45pm, with the film due to begin at sunset. The film is rated PG and under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets cost £7 each and can be purchased on Eventbrite: https://greasecyclecinema.eventbrite.co.uk

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Phil North said: “We’ve got a great summer of events planned this year and the cycle-powered cinema is something totally different for Andover.

“Whether you want to hop on a bike to cycle and power the film or just come along and soak up the atmosphere, this will be a really fun evening out in the town.”
