I’m fighting alongside SOBO Beach to review the council’s flawed procurement process. I’ve been speaking with the government’s procurement minister and stand with SOBO Beach. I’m working with Councillor Patrick Connolly and Derek Heritage to reopen Swanmore Gardens, renew Kings Park Nursery and Charminster Library, and reinvigorate local playgrounds.
The only thing better than seeing the Cherries beat AC Milan 3-0 at home in Europe was seeing Jeff Mostyn’s delight. He saved the Cherries, now they’re beating AC Milan (and, days later, Man United 3-0 away in the Premier League). Bournemouth owes Jeff and his lovely wife, a huge debt of gratitude.
We owe council officers who helped to get Beaufort Community Centre cleaned, painted, and reopened in record time our thanks. Following my own community meeting about the centre with local champion Simon Adorian, I recently spoke at a public meeting at the centre itself, alongside officers and they’re full of love for the building and the spirit of community.
Please do pop in and say hello to Amanda, Stuart, and some of the new council officers just being hired right now. Groups are returning, including LEAP Dance who I joined recently!
I recently joined SWR to break ground on the new accessibility project, made possible with £3m from the Labour Government funding. Two lifts and an upgrade to how the station looks are on the way.
Pokesdown’s upgrade was on the minds of students from Pokesdown Community Primary School when I introduced them to Education Minister Paul Waugh on his visit. He came to see two new free breakfast clubs at Pokesdown and Jewell Academy, funded by the Labour Government, and supporting local children to start the school day well.
When the Chancellor offers Bournemouth tens of millions of pounds and the Prime Minister tells you Bournemouth is a priority for his government, you get around the table, negotiate, and make the devolution deal a success. Now we’ve got investment coming to town.
To protect us, I’ve secured funded recognition of economic sectors including tourism; specialist support to fight our corner; and long-term, substantial, protected funding for BCP which can’t go elsewhere. The other people driving this are in colleges, universities, and major employers, and we’ll keep working to make this a success.
Our town is getting better. I want to see Bournemouth feeling safer, children getting the best start in life, and government investment unlocking our potential.
