Sometimes the best stories are shared over a beer and a bit of banter.
That’s certainly the case at Kings Park Care Home in Ferndown, where the home’s Men’s Club is proving that there is always plenty to talk about.
At a recent Beer & Banter session, conversation turned to military memories, with residents sharing stories from their time in service and reflecting on the people, places and experiences that have stayed with them over the years.
One resident shared memories of his time with the Royal Signals, including fascinating stories of BAPO – the British Army Post Office. Another resident, who served with the Royal Military Police, recalled a particularly memorable experience from his time serving in Australia, involving an Alsatian dog that was adopted by the Military Police and named Bapo.
“Whenever the Aussies shouted ‘BAPO!’ through the open window, the dog would start barking. He obviously thought they were calling him!”
At Kings Park, the Men’s Club provides a relaxed space where residents can maintain friendships, share their interests and, importantly, continue to have their voices and experiences heard.
Whether the conversation is about military service, life overseas, family, work or memories from days gone by, there is always a story to tell and plenty of opportunity for a little banter along the way.
Because sometimes all you need is a beer, a few good stories and someone willing to listen.
