Lighthouse Poole continues its support for new writing with a suite of courses for adults at all stages of their writing development.
Building on the success of the Young Writers courses launched in 2021, the Poole arts venue now offers three writing groups aimed at three levels of development.
“Our writing programme is a source of great pride and has evolved to meet a growing demand for activities that offer a clear progression for writers of all abilities,” says Martha Earley, Creative Engagement Manager at Lighthouse.
- PIPELINE. Firmly established as an outlet for new writing, these informal sessions run with Dorset Scriptwriters offer writers the opportunity to see and hear new writing performed script-in-hand by actors and discuss what they have seen over a drink at the bar. Run by writers for writers, the sessions are pay what you feel.
- Lighthouse Writing Group. The next logical step for writers, this programme evolves according to the collective need. Hosted by writers, participants can expect a range of activities over the course of each term, including prompts to stimulate new writing, space to feedback on existing works in progress, group critique, and networking opportunities. Delivered with ArtfulScribe writer development agency, these evening and daytime sessions can be booked weekly for £5, with donations invited.
- Writing Stories for Stage & Screen. An intensive play/scriptwriting course led by Mike Garley, an Emmy-nominated writer and lecturer at Bournemouth University. The ten-week programme is designed to help create or refine creative ideas into scripts for stage or the screen. A developmental course, it includes sessions devised to breathe life into the written word, looking at format, structure, character, scene, editing and read-throughs to the point of sharing submittable scripts.
