The Orchid House Surgery and its Patient Participation Group are holding a public wellness event.
This is a free event and offers an opportunity to meet health service professionals and local community organisations and support groups in an informal setting.
This event follows the success of an open wellness day in April, which provided local residents the chance to learn more about wellness and everyday opportunities that are provided locally.
The NHS is keen to encourage everyone to focus on their own wellness, whether it be physical, mental or social health. One idea has been to see those fit enough to take up walking for 30 minutes every day, but hobbies, mixing with others and exercising our brains are also important.
Wellbeing is about taking care of our own health and doing our best to look after ourselves no matter what health issues we have, have had or develop.
Someone recently said we all need 5 hobbies
- Physical exercise or activity
- Learning
- Art or craft
- Community interest
- Time for ourselves
We are all different but we think there are lots of ideas out there that would meet each of these hobby areas for all of us. We know that not everyone is physically fit to run a marathon, but it could be chair yoga, tai chi, pickleball or even karate. Community interest could be joining a group or taking up volunteering. Time for ourselves could be taking that rest we all need sometimes, reading a book, eating healthily or even taking our blood pressure when needed!
Everything we do feeds into our physical and mental health. So please come along and meet staff, volunteers and the community groups joining us.
For those not able to come, please pop in and look at the new events and community noticeboard inside Orchid House Surgery to see if any of the opportunities posted there appeal to you. If not, please give your wellness some thought and see if you can start on one of the hobby areas listed.
Location and times:
The Day Centre in Library Road, Ferndown 10 October 2026 10am to 2pm.
The Barrington Café for Saturday morning refreshments.
We look forward to seeing you there.
