Wimborne Minster Launches Safe Places Scheme to Support Everyone in the Community

Wimborne Minster Town Council is pleased to launch the Safe Places scheme in the town from 6th July 2026, building on the strong community spirit in the town. The scheme identifies locations in Wimborne Minster through the Safe Places window sticker and the free Safe Places app, offering an initial point of contact for people in need of support when out and about around the town.

Whether feeling anxious, lost, confused or overwhelmed, anyone in need of support, regardless of age, demographic or support needs, can now find a Safe Place providing a friendly, calm location in Wimborne Minster.

Whether someone simply needs a few moments to regain their confidence, help contacting a family member or friend, or assistance in reaching the emergency services if required, Safe Places are there to provide reassurance and support.

Working with support from Dorset Council, Wimborne BID and Dorset Community Policing, Wimborne Minster Town Council are proud to join this national scheme, already established in 58 regions covering +2,700 venues.

Look out for the window sticker in participating venues and download the free Safe Place app via Apple App Store or Google Play, which directs users anonymously to their nearest available Safe Place.

Wimborne Minster Town Council is inviting more local businesses, organisations and community venues to join the scheme. Participation is free, and becoming a Safe Place is a simple but meaningful way to help make the town even more inclusive and supportive.

To find out more about joining the scheme, please email projects@wimborne.gov.uk.
