Isle of Purbeck Golf Club supports Lewis-Manning Hospice Care through events programme

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care has been selected as Charity of the Year by Isle of Purbeck Golf Club’s Seniors Captain, Stuart Hopkins, who is dedicating his captaincy year to raising funds for local hospice care across Purbeck.

Stuart, 82, has been playing golf for over 70 years and selected Lewis-Manning as his chosen charity to commemorate how the charity supported his wife. He begins his fundraising activity by taking on the Lewis-Manning Abseil Challenge on 4 July, followed by a series of events at the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club. Fundraising events include a Jazz Night on 27 June and a Charity Golf Day on 13 July, alongside ongoing donation opportunities throughout the year.

Stuart said, “I feel incredibly privileged to support Lewis-Manning Hospice Care during my captaincy year. The care my wife received from both Lewis-Manning and Forest Holme meant so much to us as a family. The teams gave us time, space, and the support we needed to help us through a very difficult time. They were there to listen and support us emotionally, while also explaining the medical and clinical nuances. The support of Lewis-Manning’s team allowed me to keep living my life alongside caring for my wife, and it gave us both real headspace when we needed it most. Golf has been a huge part of my life, and the support from the golfing community has always been strong. With the help of friends at the club, including Mayank Patel, who has played a key role in organising the events, I hope we can bring people together and raise meaningful funds for a cause that supports so many families locally.”

The Jazz Night on 27 June is being organised by Mayank Patel, owner of North London’s Hampstead Jazz Club. Profits from the evening will be donated to Lewis-Manning Hospice care. The Charity Golf Day on 13 July welcomes teams from across the UK, with entry contributions and on-the-day fundraising supporting the total.

Further events take place across the year, including the club’s Seniors’ Open on 3 August, with proceeds from raffles, collection points, and other fundraising activities supporting ongoing donations.

Clare Gallie, CEO of Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Stuart for choosing to support Lewis-Manning Hospice Care during his captaincy year. Support like his, driven by personal experience and community spirit, makes a real difference to people and families across Purbeck and beyond.”

Members of the public are encouraged to attend or support the events where possible or follow the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club’s website for further updates.
