In partnership with Dorset Peat Partnership and Peat-Fest South-West, Dorset Wildlife Trust is excited to invite young people aged 12 and over to a unique, free community engagement event celebrating Dorset’s special heathland habitats.
As part of Dorset Heaths Week, this immersive day offers participants the chance to explore Upton Heath with expert reserve wardens, discover fascinating local wildlife, and learn how to care for these precious environments.
The event kicks off at 9.45 AM at the Urban Wildlife Centre, Beacon Hill Lane, Corfe Mullen, with an exciting glimpse at what’s been caught in the moth trap overnight. Following a guided walk led by Dorset Wildlife Trust wardens and chats with local conservation groups such as Dorset Dogs and Firewise, participants will return for a creative workshop run by RE-PEAT.
This workshop, featuring Dorset musician Femi Oriogun Williams, invites young people to channel their discoveries into songwriting and creative expression. Some of the material created will contribute to a wider manifesto celebrating peatlands — an important natural resource — to be presented at the international COP30 climate conference.
Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and there will be a free lunch for the participants. Spaces are limited, so young people interested are encouraged to book their place: https://bit.ly/4nJpbG0 or email enquiries@dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uks for more information.
