New Forest District Council Approves Major Investment for Ringwood Market Place Regeneration

New Forest District Council’s (NFDC) Cabinet has approved over £7m towards delivering the transformation of Ringwood Market Place and Market Square.
The investment will support the detailed design and future construction of improvements that aim to enhance the town centre, creating a more attractive and accessible space for residents, businesses, market traders and visitors.
The decision marks a significant step forward for one of the district’s flagship community infrastructure projects and follows further work to explore delivery options and funding arrangements for the scheme.

The development includes creating a more pedestrian-friendly environment; improving accessibility between the market place, high street, The Furlong and surrounding areas. The improved space will also support markets, outdoor dining, festivals, and events, helping to increase visitor dwell time and economic activity within the town centre.

The funding comes from Strategic Community Infrastructure Levy contributions paid by developers to help provide infrastructure needed to support growth. The Ringwood scheme forms part of the council’s wider programme of investment in infrastructure and public spaces across the district.

Cllr Derek Tipp, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Economy, said: “Ringwood’s Market Place sits at the heart of the town and plays an important role in its identity and economy. This funding allocation is an important milestone that allows us to continue developing the project and move towards delivery. The ambition is to create a high-quality public space that supports local businesses, strengthens the town centre and provides lasting benefits for residents and visitors. We know there is strong interest in the future of the marketplace and we are committed to making sure the project is progressed in a way that delivers the best possible outcome for Ringwood.”

The Ringwood marketplace development plan is part of a series of major community infrastructure projects, as agreed in August 2026.
