Award-winning Josh O’Connor stars in National Theatre Live screening

Award-winning and popular actor Josh O’Connor stars in the National Theatre Live screening of Golden Boy at Theatre Royal Winchester on Tuesday 17 November.

Set in 1930s New York, at the height of the Depression, Golden Boy tells the story of Joe Bonaparte, a gifted young violinist with a future in music – until a chance at fame and fortune lures him into the brutal world of professional boxing, and he must confront what he’s willing to sacrifice, who he’s willing to become, and how to find his place in a world that demands he choose a side.

Playing Joe Bonaparte, the BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country, The Crown, Challengers) leads the cast, which also includes Daniel Mays (Line of Duty), Hayley Squires (All My Sons) and Zubin Varla (Tammy Faye).

Golden Boy is the American classic exploring ambition, identity, and the high price of success by actor, playwright and screenwriter Clifford Odets (1906 – 1963), known for his socially conscious plays. It is directed by the Olivier Award-winning Sam Yates, whose work spans theatre, film and TV, including the award-winning Vanya starring Andrew Scott.

The production was filmed live at the Almeida Theatre in London; it has a 15 (tbc) certification.
