Children and young people in School Years 3 – 10+ who are interested in theatre, including devising their own shows and bringing brilliant scripts to life, are invited to join Playmakers’ Youth Theatre, which started the week commencing Monday 21 September.
Playmakers Youth Theatre sessions are designed to inspire a love of theatre-making as well as performance. Participants develop professional skills in character development, improvisation, physical theatre and storytelling, while building the confidence to create and perform both original work and established pieces. The Youth Theatre will have the opportunity to showcase their work on stage at Theatre Royal Winchester and at the world-renowned Hat Fair Outdoor Arts Festival next year.
The weekly sessions are practical and inspiring and are open to participants of all experience levels and are held in safe and supportive spaces in the centre of Winchester, ensuring all participants feel relaxed and able to freely explore their imaginations and find their creative voices while having fun. The youth theatre’s weekly, 90-minute sessions are led by local, professional theatre-makers who are passionate about youth-led theatre.
This year, during the Autumn and Spring terms, the School Years 3 – 6 and 7 – 9 groups will work together with a professional playwright to turn their ideas into a script they will perform at Theatre Royal Winchester in March; during the Summer term they will work with scripts and contemporary texts towards a performance for Hat Fair in July. The School Years 10+ group participants will work on developing and rehearsing original scripts to perform in March and July.
