Phoenix Musical Theatre are celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Since forming in 1986, we have regularly performed at The Barrington Arts Centre in Ferndown. In March of this year, we celebrated with a concert put together by Director Marie Coltman and Jordan Small. Marie is the daughter of Margaret & Coltman, founder members of the company; Jordan is the grandson.
Our first production was The King and I, some of the original members are still with the company to this day. Over the years, we have put on countless shows, including concerts, pantomimes and full musical productions.
Every year we have a charity that we raise money for; this year’s charity is the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation. Lt John Thornton RM, who the charity is named after, was a member of Phoenix in the 1990s, where he played Prince Chulalongkorn in The King and I for us.
We are currently about to put on a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat by the famous Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd-Webber, running from 8th – 10th October 2026 at The Barrington Arts Centre. Tickets are available from ticketsource.co.uk/phoenix or at the Barrington’s box office.
We are an inclusive organisation and try our best to accommodate all who wish to participate. We try to make all areas of the company inclusive and have now set up a quiet room for members who need a space to relax if they get overstimulated. We also aim to make as many of the shows we perform inclusive as well. For Joseph, the Saturday matinee performance will be a ‘signed performance’ for those who are hard of hearing.
