Step into Summer with a Nature Buddy

With summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to get out and enjoy the fresh air and all that Dorset’s beautiful countryside has to offer.

If you, or someone you know, would like to get outdoors but don’t want to do it alone, or need a little extra support – a Nature Buddy could help.

The Nature Buddies Network is a Dorset-wide project offering FREE, friendly support to help people spend more time in nature. Spending time outdoors has been shown to boost mood, reduce stress and improve wellbeing, and Nature Buddies are here to help people take part in outdoor activities in a safe and supportive way.

The scheme works with local organisations and activity providers to train volunteers as Nature Buddies, a friendly face to welcome new people along and participate in the activity alongside them. Activities range from walks and nature watching to gardening and conservation tasks, offering plenty of opportunities to get outside, try something new, and enjoy good company.

Kate Townsend, Project Coordinator explains “It’s wonderful to see people trying something new and being made to feel so welcome. Having that friendly support can make all the difference – it helps people feel comfortable, included, and part of the group.”

An online Activity Finder makes it easy to search for Nature Buddies opportunities across Dorset – dorset-nl.org.uk/nature-buddies-activities or contact Kate for more information on 01305 228246 / kate.townsend@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk

The Nature Buddies Network is coordinated by Dorset National Landscape and supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
