Care South staff and residents brought plenty of enthusiasm as they took part in and celebrated the participants at a dog-themed obstacle course in Poole.
Residents from Talbot View care home, which is run by not-for-profit care provider Care South, attended Lewis-Manning Hospice Care’s Muddy Dog Dash, a charity run held at Upton Country Park. As well as cheering on the event’s participants, they also acted as judges for The Muddy Dog Show to help to choose the worthy winners.
Care South were proud to be headline sponsors of the event, in support of Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, which is Dorset’s independent hospice charity providing extraordinary care to people and their loved-ones facing a life-limiting illness.
David, who lives at Talbot View, returned as a judge for the dog show, having previously helped judge Lewis-Manning’s Muddy Dog Dash at Avon Heath Country Park in September last year. The same event will take place this year on Saturday, 10 October.
David said: “It was nice to see people out and about enjoying themselves. There were even more dogs at this event than at the one last year.”
Peter, who also lives at Talbot View, said: “It was very nice. I love opportunities to get out and about and I love dogs, so it was a great event to be at.”
Dawn Hand, Home Manager at Talbot View, said: “Our residents had a fantastic time at the Muddy Dog Dash, where they met so many of the event’s participants and their dogs while sitting in the sunshine. It is so important that our residents continue to feel part of their local community and as so many of them love animals, this was the perfect opportunity to get involved, socialise and enjoy a really uplifting day out together.”
Two members of Care South’s Marjorie House care home team, Georgie Powell and Nicole Avondo, completed the 2.5K route, alongside Louise Fidler, Jane Legg and Bruce Law from Care South at Home’s Bournemouth office, with a longer 5km route also available.
Participants took on a novelty obstacle course with their pets, which featured giant tunnels, tyres, scramble nets and a doggy disco. Afterwards, the event culminated in a fun dog show with a range of categories, including ‘Waggiest Tail’, ‘Best Trick’ and ‘Golden Oldie’. In total, the event raised enough money to deliver more than 700 hours of hospice care to local people and their families.
Anna DuRose, Community, Challenges and Events Team Leader for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Care South for their generous support of our Muddy Dog Dash. It was wonderful to see the residents having fun watching participants warm up before starting, and then cross the finish line looking a lot muddier than when they started. We loved being able to bring the community together to support our vital work, helping us continue providing care and support to patients and their families when they need it most.”
