Breakin’ Convention, the groundbreaking festival of hip hop theatre, is coming back to Lighthouse Poole on Saturday 30 May, so be ready to be blown away by high-energy performances from world-class poppers, lockers, b-boys and b-girls.
This year’s line-up features Femme Fatale (France/Mexico/South Korea), a mesmerising female trio known for their musicality, precision and technique, and the trailblazing ILL-Abilities (Netherlands/Brazil), a crew comprising of some of the world’s best b-boys who have a disability.
Joining for the evening performance is the mighty TRAPLORD, the Olivier Award-winning creation from sometime Beyonce choreographer Ivan Blackstock – a powerful fusion of movement and storytelling which challenges racial stereotypes of Black men.
All this, plus incredible local talent from Poole in a day-long takeover of Lighthouse curated and hosted by UK hip hop theatre legend and Breakin’ Convention Artistic Director Jonzi D. This dynamic celebration of hip hop culture will fill the entire venue from stage to foyer with a foyer programme of live DJs, graffiti artists, freestyle dance sessions and more.
In the run-up to Breakin’ Convention, a series of local events run by local rep Stella Mavris of Dance For All will see local crews showcase their talents in the community and offer newcomers an opportunity to get involved with free street dance and breakin’ classes.
