Weymouth Talent Shines As Artists Bring The Town’s Beauty To Life

A STRIKING painting of Weymouth’s shores has been crowned winner during an exhibition organised by Lovell Homes, showcasing seven stunning pieces by local artistic talent.

Jaqueline Redfurn was announced as the winner for her striking painting of Weymouth’s shores. During the exhibition event at Bincombe Park, judges praised her work for its complex and intricate mark making, which created rich texture and captivated the panel.

Jacqueline said: “I’m incredibly thankful and feel very privileged to be chosen as the winner. Knowing my love for home, nature, and the Fleet connected with others means the world.”

The exhibition also showcased the artwork of seven shortlisted artists, with two runners-up announced: Abigail Whelan and Pauline Metcalf.

Abigail’s abstract depiction of the town’s harbour drew judges’ admiration for its textured approach, which lent the piece an intensity. Pauline’s skilfully composed piece of Weymouth’s much-loved carousel was noted for its fun and charming character, with layered textures and strong leading lines.

The artists were joined by Bincombe Park residents and the expert judging panel, comprising representatives from local art group Artwey, Wey Valley Academy and the Lovell Homes team.

The competition was launched by the national, five-star housebuilder in November, inviting residents, schools and community art groups to capture the beauty and pride of Weymouth through their chosen creative medium – from photography and sketching to collage and painting.

Ross Field, regional managing director for Lovell in the South West, said: “We received an incredible 27 entries to this competition, and I think that speaks to not only the talent we have in Weymouth but also to the pride people have for the place they call home. I want to thank everyone who entered and again to congratulate Jaqueline, Abigail and Pauline on their achievement. It was a wonderful evening celebrating each of the artists and their work. As well as receiving a monetary contribution towards art supplies, we’re delighted to be able to display the artists’ credited pieces on the Lovell website and in our Bincombe Park show home for the public to enjoy over the next few weeks. I encourage everyone to come by and see it for themselves.”

Nestled just two miles from the centre of Weymouth, Bincombe Park is a 500-home development and a joint venture between Abri and Lovell. Situated just minutes away from the picturesque beaches and countryside of The Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO world heritage site, the development also provides excellent transport links and easy access to Dorchester, Exeter, Bournemouth and even London Waterloo.

The stunning 3- and 4-bed homes at Bincombe Park are available to reserve now, with prices starting from £347,950. House hunters are encouraged to register their interest in the future release of 2-, 3- and 4-bed homes, which will start from £270,950.
