High Contrast Cinema Unveils Spring 2026 Screenings

High Contrast Cinema, the volunteer‑run community cinema based at the Allendale Centre, is gearing up for a brand new season of screenings this spring. The project continues to celebrate classic cinema on the big screen, bringing vintage films to local audiences in a warm, communal setting.

For 2026, High Contrast Cinema is taking a joyful detour into the Golden Age of Hollywood with its Screwball Comedy Season – a run of four sparkling, quick‑witted favourites that take audiences further back in time than ever before.

The season opens on Friday, 6th February with The Thin Man (1934), a razor‑sharp blend of mystery and marital banter that helped define the genre. On 20th March, audiences can enjoy Holiday (1938), a sophisticated romantic comedy pairing Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn at their most charming. Preston Sturges’ mischievous masterpiece The Lady Eve (1941) arrives on 17th April, before the season concludes on 15th May with the beloved classic The Philadelphia Story (1940) with James Stewart alongside a returning Grant and Hepburn.

A season ticket granting entry to all four films will be available at a discounted rate until the evening of the first screening.

Jo Sibley of the High Contrast team says: “We’ve been thrilled by the enthusiasm our audiences have shown over the past few years, and this new season feels like a chance to celebrate cinema at its most playful. Although we’re turning back the clock by nine decades, the films we’ve selected still feel wonderfully fresh. Sharing them with a room full of people – many seeing them for the first time – is exactly why High Contrast Cinema exists. Season tickets continue to be a huge help in keeping the project sustainable, and we’re excited to welcome everyone back for another run of great films.”
