Across Brockenhurst, Sway, Beaulieu, and Boldre, community life is built on people knowing one another and sharing responsibility for the place they live.
At the same time, there are young people in and around the New Forest who are reaching key transition points and need extra stability. Some are leaving care without family support to rely on. Others are affected by family breakdown or housing difficulties. Often, what makes the biggest difference is practical and reliable: a safe place to live and a trusted adult.
Step by Step is a local charity working across the New Forest, supporting young people through advice, practical help, and access to safe housing when it’s needed most.
One way local people get involved is by opening their homes. Supported Lodgings supports young people aged 16–21, offering a spare room and steady support as they take steps towards independence. Fostering supports children and young people up to the age of 18, providing care and stability within a family home.
Both options are fully supported by Step by Step, with training, professional guidance, and financial allowances. People are carefully matched, and support is provided throughout.
