Wimborne Rotary Club

The roots of Wimborne Rotary can be traced back to 1950, when a group of local businessmen met at the King’s Head Hotel and founded Wimborne Rotary Club. Current Wimborne Rotary members celebrated the 75th anniversary of the club’s founding in 2025, marking the occasion with a luncheon at the Purbeck Golf Club, an enjoyable social occasion.

But social occasions are only part of the story. Wimborne Rotary is a part of the Wessex District of Rotary International, Great Britain and Ireland, which, in turn, is a part of the global Rotary Movement. The members of Rotary complete projects which bringing benefits to both the local community and wider afield.

In the case of Wimborne Rotary, its members regularly plan and deliver community events such as the Santa-Stour Fun Run, raising money for Julia’s House and other Rotary supported charities. They also host an annual Jazz at the Allendale concert, featuring Swing Unlimited Big Band, an annual Craft Fair at the Allendale, and a number of other events, all aimed at raising money which can then be distributed to a wide range of local charitable causes.

Always on the lookout for new members, Wimborne Rotary gives individuals the opportunity to put something back in their community. Whether male or female, older or young, working or retired, Wimborne Rotary will be pleased to hear from you and to welcome you as a new member. Businesses wanting to impact their local community can become involved through a recently introduced Corporate Membership scheme.

The commitment required is really up to the individual. Members meet twice a month for an informal lunch, currently at the Willett Arms, on the first and third Thursdays in the month, and there is often a social evening arranged each month for Rotarians and their partners.
