Hamworthy care home residents supported a commemorative event which saw Poole Quay illuminated by candlelight.
Residents from Dorset House care home, which is run by not-for-profit care provider Care South, attended the Candles on the Quay event organised by Lewis-Manning Hospice Care. Care South were proud to be the headline sponsors of the event in support of Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, which is an independent local Dorset charity providing extraordinary care to people and their loved ones facing a life-limiting illness.
Dorset House residents had a special VIP area reserved for them in The Quay pub, where they could see hundreds of battery-powered candles light up a jetty on Poole Quay. Care home residents, local schools, and community groups had previously decorated candle bags with messages to missed loved ones ahead of the event.
Hundreds of people from the local Poole community also turned out to support the event, which provided a thought-provoking opportunity to reflect and remember their loved ones. Music at the event was provided by The Salvation Army Band, Dorset Police Male Voice Choir and Relight My Choir.
Tracy Jennings, Home Manager at Dorset House, said: “It was an incredibly touching event for our residents and gave them a wonderful opportunity to remember their loved ones, share stories and spend time together in a peaceful way. At Care South, we are always keen to enable our residents to continue to feel part of their local community and to see this incredibly poignant spectacle for themselves.”
Anna DuRose, Events Fundraiser for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, said: “It was an honour to welcome the residents and team from Dorset House to join our Candles on the Quay event. We are so pleased that so many people took the time to gather together to honour and remember the loved ones that they have lost.”
