The Sun Will Come Out in Andover This October as AMTC Starlights Present Annie Jr

With a mop in one hand and a song in her heart, little orphan Annie belts her way through the dreariest of days, turning hard knocks into showstoppers. This October, Andover Musical Theatre Company’s (AMTC) youth group Starlights brings the timeless family favourite Annie Jr to the stage at Harrow Way School on 24, 25 and 26 October.

Set in 1930s New York, Annie Jr is a toe-tapping, heartwarming musical where scrappy optimism wins out over gloom, a stray dog becomes a star, and even the grumpiest billionaire can’t resist a chorus of “Tomorrow.” It’s a rags-to-riches tale full of sass, sunshine and songs that the whole family will love.

Tickets are £12 each, or just £10 each when you buy 5 or more, and are only available online at andovermusicaltheatre.co.uk/annie-jr.

A Stage for Young People to Shine

AMTC Starlights is much more than just a youth theatre group. It’s a safe, inclusive and inspiring space where children and teenagers aged 9–17 can discover the joy of performance, whether they’re dreaming of the spotlight or simply looking for a creative, welcoming community.

Involvement in the performing arts is proven to help young people grow in confidence, develop teamwork and communication skills, and form lifelong friendships. Founded in 2017, Starlights gives young people in Andover the opportunity to sing, dance, and act on stage, while having fun and building skills that stay with them long after the curtain falls.

This year’s production is being brought to life under the direction of Glyn Juliff and musical direction of Chip Philo. By day, both are teachers, but in their spare time, they have dedicated countless hours to guiding the young cast, encouraging them to explore their creativity and grow as performers. “For some of the children, this is the very first time they’ve ever stepped foot on a stage,” says Glyn. “It can feel quite daunting, and many are very nervous at first. To see them grow in confidence, step into the spotlight and have their moment in front of an audience is truly special. Following their journey from the first rehearsal to opening night makes it all worthwhile.”

A Charity with a Purpose

As part of Andover Musical Theatre Company, a registered charity, Starlights aims to make musical theatre accessible to all. Every ticket sold helps to support the group’s work in providing affordable, high-quality performing opportunities for local young people, regardless of background or experience.

So why not join Annie, Daddy Warbucks, Miss Hannigan and the whole cast this October for a feel-good show that proves there really is always a “Tomorrow”?
