King John’s House and Museum has opened a new cafe opposite Romsey Abbey at 13 Church Street. The museum itself has been closed since a serious fire at the end of February.
The old Tourist Information Centre has been completely revamped thanks to a generous grant from Test Valley Borough Council and the hard work of King John’s House’s dedicated staff and volunteers.
The new site, which offers fabulous views of the Abbey, will feature rotating displays of fascinating objects from the museum’s collections.
The new cafe will still offer its classic English cream teas, along with premium quality coffee, and a range of homemade cakes and scones. Customers can choose to eat in or take away, and there will be seating outdoors in the beautiful heritage garden during the summer months.
The museum’s tearoom will be the first location in the area to offer access to a new electronic Tourist Information Point, via a tablet, and there will be a small display stand for local information and leaflets.
King John’s House Cafe will be open from Tuesdays to Sundays, from 10am-5pm. It can also be rented for private events.
