Busy August for Swanage RNLI

The Swanage lifeboats launched 16 times in August with the volunteer lifeboat crew spending over 21 hours at sea assisting paddleboarders, motorboats, swimmers, helping with medical evacuations and searching for missing people.

The volunteers train every week so that they are ready to launch on shouts at any time of the day or night to put their learned skills to the test. Although the summer has been hot and dry there have been some strong breezes which have generated some swell making conditions on some rescues more challenging, especially when having to travel long distances or when transferring crew and casualties to and from the shore.

Summertime is always the busiest season for callouts, but August was exceptionally busy with seven of the callout coming during Lifeboat Week when the volunteers were holding their biggest fundraising event of the year.

Lifeboat week saw thousands of people coming to our events, with some of the biggest crowds we have ever welcomed during our closing weekend. Thank you to everyone who supported our events, helping to raise vital funds from Swanage RNLI.
