Brockenhurst Ladies are celebrating finishing top of the New Forest Women’s Bowling “A” league after playing a nail-biting final game away at Fordingbridge and earning just enough points to roll them up into first place.
They had had a great start to the season but were only in second place when they went into the final game. As they didn’t win on both rinks, the result depended on other games being played at Waterside and New Milton. Team members Jane Self, Janet Lake, Dorothy Bond, Pam Lawford, Lyn Godden, and Gill Evison hadn’t realised that they had done enough to secure the title until they saw the win confirmed on the NFWBA website after the match.
Their success is all the sweeter after the club struggled to find enough women players last year to take part in both A and D leagues and was close to being relegated. Brockenhurst Ladies “D” team also had a good bowling season and came second in their league this year.
