Artistic floral display in the heart of Romsey

An elegant art installation constructed of dried flowers, seed heads, and more graces Church Street, thanks to a collaboration between King John’s House and Museum and members of Romsey Flower Club.

The temporary display of more than a dozen species of flowers and foliage was made especially for Romsey to enjoy and celebrates 30 years of the gardens at King John’s House and Museum.

Romsey Flower Club Chairman Maureen Lawes said: “Romsey Flower Club committee members Lynne Edward, Julie Facey, and I were intrigued by the invitation to get involved with such an unusual project. The idea of creating a temporary piece of art from flowers that worked to enhance the street frontage, masked the building work taking place behind, and captured the interest of passersby was a challenge, but one we relished. We don’t usually create work in dried flowers, but we’re so proud of how this project turned out”.

Assistant manager of King John’s House and Museum, Kirsty Paterson, said: “Special thanks to Romsey Flower Club for the generous donation of materials, talent and expertise. It’s a stunning display of local artistry.”

The temporary installation will be in place for Romsey locals and visitors to view for a few short weeks, possibly into early August, depending on the condition of the flowers.

Flowers included are: Hydrangeas, poppy seeds heads, teasels, lavender, alliums, lunaria, statice, limonium, and several grasses.
