Purbeck Arts Club Swanage, formed 70 years ago to provide pleasure and joy after the dismal war years. It continues to provide an opportunity for friendship and camaraderie while pursuing their common interest in art. Meetings are on Tuesday mornings at the Catholic Hall in Swanage.
The club provides a friendly and supportive environment for artists of all abilities – from those who haven’t painted since they left school to those who have been producing artwork all their lives.
In summer, an outdoor programme is running, where members draw and paint at various local locations. In the winter, they have several Workshop Tutorials. These are delivered either by their own members or by other local artists. The workshops focus on different media – watercolour, oils, pastels, collage, even pottery – and give members the opportunity to try new things with their skills.
In August, over 20 club members will be exhibiting a wide variety of paintings, prints, greeting cards, and pottery. All will be available to purchase at reasonable prices. Not surprisingly, given the beautiful area in which we live, much of the work exhibited will show local scenes.
This year, the Club introduced a new category in the exhibition with all members of the club being challenged to produce work to fit 6” by 6” frames.
The exhibition will be open every day from Saturday, 16th August to Bank Holiday Monday, August 25th. Times 10.00 am until 5.00 pm. At The Catholic Church Hall, Rempstone Road, Swanage BH19 1AH
Entry is free.
On Saturday 16th, there will be a coffee morning and Roy Pilkington, local artist and exhibition judge, will be presenting awards, including best in show and best in each of the different media on show.
A warm welcome awaits all visitors.
