Launched to acclaim in 2016, Opera in a Box merges opera’s traditional elements with contemporary twists, offering intimate and electrifying performances. Touring across the South West this June, the company presents their take on Mozart’s distinguished opera, The Magic Flute, performing in Dorset for one night only as part of the summer programme produced by the touring arts charity Artsreach.
Set against a backdrop of mystery and enchantment Mozart’s timeless fairy-tale, The Magic Flute, follows Prince Tamino’s quest to rescue Pamina, with the help of a magic flute and his comical sidekick Papageno. From encounters with magical creatures and trials of bravery in the pursuit of wisdom, this iconic opera is filled with humour and love, and promises to charm and thrill in equal measure.
As a touring company, Opera in a Box aims to bring the opera genre to as wide an audience as possible, breaking down preconceptions about the genre with fresh and exciting productions. The company is focused on bringing together young and talented individuals to create innovative and gripping theatre, and this production features singers who have also performed with companies including Bath Opera, Bristol Opera, and Welsh National Youth Opera, and in venues from The Theatre Royal, Bath to Glyndebourne.
