CANTICLES OF LIGHT, a fabulous, midsummer evening of choral music with instruments and tubular bells! In St John’s Church, New Alresford, on Saturday 12 July, 7.30 pm.
Spend the evening in beautiful Alresford, in the heart of the South Downs, and be entertained by our local chamber choir, Southern Voices, in a varied and fun programme. The concert opens evoking all the joy of an English high summer with songs by Gerald Finzi and follows with a fun mix including: an Appalachian spiritual in a modern setting made famous by the Kings’ Singers; an energetic piece by American composer Eric Whitacre and three highly entertaining arrangements by Bob Chilcott including a traditional Newfoundland fishing song with a dizzying mix of vocal spaghetti!
At the heart of the programme are two modern classics: The Canticles of Light by Bob Chilcott (commissioned in 2000 by Winchester Music Club) and Lux Aeterna (eternal light) by Morten Lauridsen, with all his sumptuous, signature harmonies.
