Open for Art Trail 2025

Step into the world of creativity as the Open for Art Trail returns from 17th May to 1st June 2025. Whether you’re a curious newcomer or a seasoned art enthusiast, this much-loved event warmly invites you to explore the vibrant studios, exhibitions, and workspaces of over 60 local artists across Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester, and neighbouring communities.

Organised biennially by Artwey CIC and led by local artists, the community-focused event provides a unique opportunity to meet talented local creators, view diverse artworks, and gain insights into their artistic processes. It’s a celebration of creativity that builds community connections, inspires appreciation for local talent, and supports Dorset’s thriving arts scene.

Hilly Longman, Chair of Artwey CIC, commented: “As part of Weymouth and Portland’s Town of Culture celebrations for 2025, this year’s Open for Art Trail highlights the exceptional creative talent found not only in these towns but across the wider region. It’s a chance for both visitors and residents to connect with artists and explore the rich artistic landscape we’re so proud of.”

Keith Holdaway, Coordinator of Open for Art, said: “This year’s trail is a wonderful opportunity to explore 27 inspiring venues, each with its own unique character and artistic energy. Our free brochure – complete with a suggested route and recommended refreshment stops – is available from local pick-up points. You’ll also find venue signage, kindly provided by our sponsors, DOMVS estate agents, to help guide you along the trail.”

Judy Tate, who is organising the Art in Poundbury group exhibition, added: “We’re delighted to take part in the Open for Art Trail again this year. This Artist Collective has created a unique and exciting body of work showing their diverse responses to ‘Poundbury Unwrapped’. We look forward to welcoming visitors to Jubilee Hall in Poundbury, sharing insights into our creative processes, and presenting the outstanding work of our artists.”

Entry to all venues is free, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for everyone who wishes to immerse themselves in Dorset’s creative heart.

Keith concludes: “It’s a wonderful experience for all ages – whether you’re visiting with friends or enjoying a day out with the family. We hope you’ll enjoy meeting talented artists, discovering unique handcrafted gifts, and perhaps even sparking your own creative journey.”
