On a fine sunny afternoon, the Wimborne Gardening Club held its Spring Show in the Allendale Community Centre, Wimborne on Saturday (29th March).
Visitors were greeted by over 100 entries across 39 different classes, which included daffodils, tulips, spring flowers, floral art, cookery, photography, and, for a first for the Gardening Club, Handicrafts. There were also classes for Juniors to enter. In addition, there were also displays put on by the local Townswomen’s Guild showing Wimborne Square over the years and Wilding Wimborne. Seven trophies were presented to the winners of the various sections, and each first-prize winner received a £10 Voucher kindly donated by Stewarts Nurseries.
There was a brisk trade on the plants sales table, which brought in over £140, and a splendid raffle raised £185. Entrance was free, but donations brought in a further £87. Two new members joined the Club.
Jane Green, a member of the Gardening Clubs Planning Group who took over as Show Manager following the retirement of Tony Beard, speaking after her first show, said, “The beautifully displayed exhibits contributed to a very successful Spring Show. Many visitors made very kind and enthusiastic comments, which made me realise all the hard work and effort that our members put into the show were certainly worth it and I fully commend them all”.
Anthony Oliver, Honorary Treasurer of the Club added, “thanks to those who gave up their time to judge the entries, all those who exhibited and donated raffle prizes and plants for the plant stall and all who helped to make the show a success which of course included all those who visited the show”.
