This month the parish council has been involved with fencing
The PC receives CIL funding from Dorset Council. This is called the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). It is a levy that is placed on building contractors. When they complete a project they must pay Dorset Council a certain amount of money (the Levy). The PC receives 15% of that levy. This money has been used in the past for a variety of projects that have benefitted residents. The most notable was the full refurbishment of the playpark 4 years ago.
The PC has just completed a new project to replace the fence by the scout hut and tennis courts. The old fence had been there in excess of 40 years. Foliage and trees had grown through it and much of the wire had been cut. It had a great many holes in it and it looked tired and unattractive. Following a small tender exercise we employed a contractor to carry out the work. They did so in some pretty horrendous weather, but this didn’t detract from the fantastic job they did. Part of the work was to remove many old tree stumps. We thought the stumps were completely rotten and wouldn’t be a problem. We were wrong. They were massive. Some were 5ft deep and 8 feet across – all underground. We are very pleased with the end result and believe it makes the area look a lot nicer.
The next fencing job is to replace the wooden fence around the play park. The wooden slats are starting to rot and fall out. The scouts and guides did a wonderful job painting the fence 4 years ago but sadly it is now beyond repair. The PC has decided to replace all the slats with recycled plastic slats. They will be multicoloured and add some colour to the playpark. As part of the work ,the fence will be ‘straightened’ where it goes towards the trees. This will mean the outdoor gym equipment will be enclosed in the play park. It will also mean there will be more grassed space to use. The PC will buy some new picnic benches to go in this space.
If you have any ideas on projects that the PC could spend CIL money on, then please let us know. It must be a project that can benefit residents in some way.
