New Season Starts At Wimborne Minsters Chained Library

The shelves have been cleaned; the books have been dusted; examined for any deterioration that may need restoration or repair; new editions to the library have been catalogued and listed; new books have been selected for the display cabinet and new volunteers have been recruited and trained.

We are ready for the new season. All we need IS YOU, our visitors.

Last year was a record year for us with over 8,000 visitors, as well as academics and researchers using our library to further their studies and understanding of the past- the true and historical meaning of our library as envisaged by our founders, Reverand William Stone and Mr Roger Gillingham, two local Wimborne boys, and pupils at the Queen Elizabeth’s School, surely just what Margaret Beaufort and her Great Granddaughter Queen Elizabeth I, designed the Grammar School for, and continuing the scholastic tradition of our Patron Saint, St Cuthburga herself.

Our season runs from 31st March to the 31st October 2025, with our opening hours 10:30 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 16:00 plus the First and Third Saturday mornings of the month.

We are also open during the various festivals held in Wimborne.

The season also starts, in April, for our Minster Guides, who will show you all the wonders, the historical importance, the architecture, and the fascinating characters associated with The Minsters 1300-year history.

But the Minster is, as always, a place of peace and tranquillity, open to all who wish to worship, seek solace, or just 10 minutes of reflection and peace in this increasingly busy and complicated world.

If you would like to volunteer in the Library, or as a Minster Guide, please contact Ruth at Church House, or leave your details with our Vergers, John and/or Martin.
