Mayor’s Message – February 2025 – Weymouth

Hello February! And I hope that January was a good start to the New Year for everyone, despite the wet and windy weather.

We rounded off January with the poignant Holocaust Memorial Day service at Radipole Park and Gardens, to reflect and remember those around the world affected by the Holocaust and other genocides, historic and current. We also held the first of our networking events for the year, with insights shared by Weymouth Town Council on community event management. So, I hope all those in attendance got a lot out of the session, made some new connections, and will be inspired to run more community-minded events across wonderful Weymouth this year.

And with spring just around the corner, I am looking forward to warmer days ahead, and more events and engagements to attend. If you run a local community or voluntary group, or you have an event that you would like the Mayor of Weymouth to attend or open, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you, just email mayor@weymouthtowncouncil.gov.uk

2025 is an exciting year for both Portland and Weymouth as the two towns take the baton from Bridport to become Dorset Towns of Culture. This will see a varied programme of events and activities taking place across the area, so look out for ways to get involved and celebrate the unique coastal culture we have right on our doorstep.

Looking further ahead to May, we will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a concert on the beach and other exciting activities. Weymouth Town Council will also make grants available to local groups who want to put on a commemorative event in their community too. Keep an eye on the Council’s social media for more details on how to apply.
