It’s officially summer here in Weymouth and I have lots of exciting events to share. The summer firework displays have started. Every Monday in August at 9.30pm, you can watch the displays across Weymouth Bay. The wonderful displays will be supplied by firework company, Sirotechnics.
The Council’s ‘Lighting Up the Jubilee Clock’ initiative aims to raise awareness for various charities across Weymouth. This month between 5th and 8th August, the clock will be lit blue for the Will Mackaness Trust. You can visit our website to view the other charities that were chosen to light up the clock this year.
The Council announced their free community events with the next two being held this month on Tuesday 6th August at Links Road, Westham and on Wednesday 28th August at Wyke Gardens. They promise to be fun and engaging events for young children and their families. Both events will run from 11am-2pm, with more details on the Council’s social media pages.
Last month, I had the pleasure of attending the opening of the new floral clock at Greenhill Gardens as well as the new clock building where passersby can view the mechanical works of the clock. As well as this the clock will chime every hour and every quarter which hasn’t been heard in over 3 decades. It was a delight to attend and I hope this will be enjoyed by residents and visitors. I encourage everyone to go down to Greenhill Gardens to witness this incredible clock. It’s one of the last floral clocks ever made in the UK!
Looking ahead to September, there are many events returning to Weymouth such as the Dusk Til Dark event organised by We Are Weymouth, this will be returning between Friday 27th and 28th September. Another big event returning is Ironman which will be held on Sunday 15th September. As part of Awtrey’s 15th year anniversary they have organised fun activities for friends and family in Weymouth. One of those is a Peace Trail, more details can be found on their website, artwey.co.uk
You can keep up to date with events I attend on my Facebook page – Mayor of Weymouth – Dorset.
Enjoy the rest of summer in wonderful Weymouth!
