Winchester Go LD held its annual plant fair at Upper Farm, Down Farm Lane, Headbourne Worthy on Wednesday 8 May. Set in the grounds of the tranquil Upper Farm gardens, the plant fair brought a mouth-watering selection of specialist plant growers from Hampshire offering a huge choice of herbaceous plants, shrubs with particular emphasis on colour and shape, climbers, roses and herbs.
Organised by Winchester Go LD’s fundraising committee, the event is a key fundraiser for the charity that enables adults with learning disabilities in the Winchester area.
The fair was opened by the charity’s patron, Lady Portal (Louisa) MBE DL. There were talks and gardening tips by expert gardener Gillian Taylor including: More colour for less work, Perfect plants for sustainable gardening and Let’s talk about Roses.
“We were thrilled with the huge turn out and an even greater selection of stalls this year,” says organiser and Chair of the fundraising Committee, Ros Nell,
“With 6 plant nurseries and over 40 stall holders. We were delighted that we had well in excess of 600 people attending.”
Betty Chadwick, CEO explains “We work with our members, their families and the whole community to find better and more inclusive ways of doing things and the day is a lovely example of community engagement.”
