Nursery Manager Honored as Childcare Champion at Downing Street

Chanelle Cochrane, Senior Nursery Manager at Tops Musgrove, was recognised as a community childcare champion at a special reception hosted to celebrate local heroes nominated by her local MP Rebecca Pow. The event highlighted Chanelle’s excellent work that she and the nursery staff do to support working parents and their children.
At the reception, Chanelle had the privilege of meeting David Johnston OBE MP, Minister for Children, Families, and Wellbeing. This meeting provided a platform to discuss the importance of supporting childcare services and promoting sustainability in early childhood education.

Following the reception, Chanelle Cochrane was treated to a tour of Parliament, where she had the unique opportunity to observe a live debate in the House of Lords and explore the historic chambers of the House of Commons.

Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow said:

“The early years of a child’s life are absolutely critical to their development and nurseries like Tops Musgrove play a valuable role for working parents and their children. It was a pleasure to invite the Nursery Manager, Chanelle Cochrane, to a reception at No10 recently to celebrate and recognise all the excellent work she and the staff do for our community.”
Of special note, are the environmentally friendly initiatives in action at the nursery which I have seen first-hand. These include gardening with the children and a move away from disposable nappies, so that all the nappies they use are washable. They also make all their own wet wipes which in itself will reduce the nurseries’ environmental footprint significantly. I have seen the wet wipes being made – from kitchen roll, it’s simple and cost effective. I was so pleased that Chanelle was able to share all this great work with the Minister during her visit.”

Minister for Children, Families and Wellbeing, David Johnston OBE MP said:

“It was great to be able to say thank you to some of our fantastic early years workforce, who do so much to help give every child the best start in life and support parents to work. This Government is making the single biggest investment that’s ever been made in childcare and we’re delighted that the attendees yesterday have already helped us provide more than 200,000 people with the first 15 hours of funded childcare for their 2-year-olds.”

Tops Musgrove is part of a sustainable day nursery chain, Tops Day Nurseries, who have over 30 nurseries across the South and Southwest. Tops Musgrove offers flexible early education and care for children aged 3 months to
