New and expectant parents were among the crowds who snapped up bargain top-quality baby and toddler clothes, toys and equipment at the NCT Winchester & District Nearly New Sale at the Badger Farm Community Centre in Winchester on Sunday 21 April, kindly sponsored by Dybles Estate Agents, Baby Squids and Liz Knowles Women’s Health & Fitness Physio.
Saving money on high street prices, as well as shopping in a more sustainable way, was the theme of the event. Parents were selling their pre-owned baby essentials to savvy shoppers wanting a cheaper alternative to paying for expensive baby products, as well as those looking to protect the environment. Over 5000 items were up for grabs and, with a footfall over 200 shoppers, nearly £6000 worth of items were sold.
NCT Nearly New Sales are not like other secondhand children’s sales: the items are all of ‘nearly new’ quality and are carefully checked by volunteers on the day. The vast array of items are also arranged into accessible categories, enabling buyers to easily navigate through the sale while enjoying a hassle-free, department store-style shopping experience.
A small committee and a large team of 40 on-the-day volunteers worked together to set up the event. Sarah Crisp, Sale Coordinator at NCT Winchester & District, said: “We’re delighted that our Nearly New Sale was such a huge success. Local families snapped up some real bargains while supporting NCT’s vital charity work in Winchester and surrounding areas. Our volunteers made it a great event and it was also a fantastic opportunity to meet other parents from the area.”
The income generated from NCT Nearly New Sales makes a huge difference and helps the charity to support parents, fund helplines and offer local services such as baby first aid courses, breastfeeding support, a reusable nappy library and baby bundles for local parents in need.
The next sale will be held on Sunday 13 October 2024, 13:00–15:00 at Badger Farm Community Centre, Winchester. NCT members have early access to the sale at 12:45.
