Last month, we included an article that was intended to highlight some of the things that could be done in the area around West Moors.
However, it erroneously gave the impression that some of the locations mentioned were in or close to West Moors. So this month, we thought we would focus on those things that actually do make West Moors such a great place to live.
The village atmosphere and community spirit is something to behold. It can be easily seen at such events as the Annual Litter Pick, Carols on the Petwyn or the Party in the Park, where residents come together and celebrate or help each other.
All of the local churches help uplift the community, from St Mary’s on Station Road, to St Anthony’s and Pinehurst Community Church on Pinehurst Road. As well as regular services, they host groups and events for parishoners and local residents.
Facilities, such as Fryers Field, with its sports pitches, pavilion, play area and skatepark give places for all ages to come and enjoy sport or larger events such as the drive-in movie night.
The West Moors Memorial Hall hosts many social groups and events throughout the year, where residents can practice their hobbies or just meet new friends.
West Moors Library is also a great asset to the village, not only for its books, but also its public computer access and events.
For those that enjoy walking and nature, the options are plentiful, with the Plantation to the north, the Castleman Trailway running through the village, the Riverside walk along Uddens Water and Slop Bog, just the other side of the A31.
There are a number of B&Bs and Guest Houses for those that would like to invite visitors to stay and enjoy this wonderful area.
For those families with children, there are numerous youth activities, such as Girl Guiding and Scouting, as well as local Cadet Forces.
It is thanks to the Town Council and the many volunteers that help the village be such a great location for all ages.
